Twenty participants were given a photograph of the same ambiguous object and asked to write a brief response of what they thought the object resembled, in addition to its possible function. Eleven of the twenty participants responded. These replies were then reworked to imitate different encyclopaedia entries for the same object, with both text and images. Rare Birds is both the original object combined with these didactics installed in any given space. It is a comment on the production and rhetoric of authoritative knowledge we rely upon, often without question.
